A town's library will shut for seven weeks for a £150,000 revamp.

Coalville Library will be closed from Monday while building works and refurbishments are carried out.

When the facility reopens in late February, the entrance from High Street will have a new layout, while the library will have new shelving and carpeting and an upgraded children's area with sensory features.

Kevin Crook, Leicestershire County Councillor for libraries, said the project, which is funded by developer contributions, had been designed with input from library users and would "make the space even better".

The council said the plan was an "opportunity to upgrade a popular and well-used public space"

Library users will have any book loans extended until 25 March, said Leicestershire County Council.

The nearest libraries to Coalville during the closure are Ibstock, Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Markfield, Measham and Shepshed.
