A life-sized sculpture of a Lancaster bomber is to have its official opening in May.

The steel structure, called On Freedom's Wings is next to the A46 in Norton Disney, Lincolnshire.

The Bomber County Gateway Trust said a weekend of events to celebrate its inauguration would take place, starting on Friday 15 May.

The opening ceremony will be conducted on the Saturday afternoon by the Bishop of Nottingham, the trust said.

The Bomber County Gateway Memorial, located close to the Nottinghamshire border, honours RAF crews of World War Two and has been in place since September.

Prior to the opening ceremony the site is offering ticketed visits on some Saturdays and Sundays in March and April.
