A viable device has been found during a security alert in Newry.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said they received a report at 11:10 GMT on Monday that a device had been left at Ashgrove Road.

They said a safety operation was put in place with a number of roads closed.

"Ammunition Technical Officers attended and determined that the object was a viable yet crude device," the PSNI added. Residents have been permitted to return to their homes, and all cordons have been lifted.
