Police made two arrests after the incident on Tuesday

A man aged in his 40s is in a critical condition in hospital after being struck by a car that failed to stop in Lancashire.

An air ambulance was called to the incident in Ovangle Road in Morecambe at about 14:30 GMT on Tuesday involving a black Hyundai i30 car and a pedestrian, police said.

The Hyundai was later found abandoned.

A 41-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop. The woman was also charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Sgt Joseph Calvert said: "We know this happened at a busy time of the day and there were a number of potential witnesses in the area.

"With that in mind, would ask anyone with information or dashcam, mobile phone or CCTV footage which could assist our enquiries to make contact with us as soon as possible."
