A range of community groups use the Stoke Aldermoor Life Centre, the council said

Organisations are being urged to come forward to take over the running of a community centre in Coventry.

The council-owned Stoke Aldermoor Life Centre on Roundhouse Road is currently run by a group of trustees.

But they have decided to step back in the coming months from being in charge, which they have been since 2007, the local authority said.

Groups who could take over the lease for the next three years are being urged to come forward, given the widespread use of the centre, a spokesperson added.

Councillor Naeem Akhtar said it was "essential" that whoever took over the lease promoted it for community use to benefit the residents of Lower Stoke.

"Organisations who apply to take over the running of the centre will need to have experience of robust financial planning, previous building management experience," he added.

Services at the centre will continue as usual and the trustees will keep managing day-to-day activities while the search for an organisation to take over continues.

A panel of officers and councillors will run the process to find them, the spokesperson said.
