Bomb disposal team destroys suspicious item

A bomb disposal unit has carried out a controlled explosion on a suspicious item found in Harlow.

Essex Police said it was alerted to the item in Staple Tye, shortly after 08:30 BST on Saturday.

A cordon, also taking in Southern Way, was put in place as a precaution.

Army experts assessed the item to pose no threat, police said.

The cordon was lifted shortly after 13:00.

Police thanked shoppers and businesses in the area for their patience while the item was dealt with.
