Sharon Osbourne invited to stand in local election

Councillor Robert Alden, leader of the city's Conservative group, wrote an open letter to her inviting her to stand for the party, if she decides to move back to the city.
The wife of Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy had commented on social media that she was considering a return and might put herself up for election in May.
Another Tory, Alex Yip, said she would make a great addition to the party. "Her links in city are very well known, can you imagine someone with that visibility, that love for the city and international reputation building awareness of the election."
"Sharon's obviously a very proven campaigner.
"She's done a lot of council awareness, campaigning for Birmingham Airport to be renamed and I think her ability and her passion for the city's international reputation will just be wonders," Yipp added.
In his letter Alden said there was "no doubt that Sharon Osbourne getting elected would help turn the Council around from looking into the void."
He added that Osbourne's "passion for wanting to help make our city even better" was clear, and argued that her background in media and music "would undoubtedly help the Local Conservatives get Birmingham singing again."
Alden said the group remains focused on stabilising the council's finances and restoring basic services, and extended what he described as an open invitation for Osbourne to get involved in their efforts to "clean up Birmingham."
"If Sharon would like to help us clean up Birmingham, just give us a call," he said.
