Road linking towns to close for improvement work

A road that connects two towns will be closed for more than five weeks to allow for "essential" improvement works.

North Northamptonshire Council said drainage and resurfacing would take place on Higham Road, which connects Rushden and Higham Ferrers, from Monday until 12 September.

"The works will help ensure the road remains safe, reliable and fit for the future," said Reform UK councillor Chris McGiffen, who is executive member for highways and travel.

"We appreciate that road closures can cause inconvenience."

He also thanked people for their patience.

The council said that emergency vehicle access would be maintained "where it is safe to do so", while bus operators will "make alternative arrangements as required".

While the road closure will initially be "24/7", the authority said it hoped to enable access for residents and businesses during the resurfacing phase from 26 August.
