Work on new post-16 campus 'going really well'
BBCBuilding work on a new post-16 campus has been "going really well" after six months of "intensive" ground works, a government has said.
Ash Dupre, head of education capital projects for the States of Guernsey, said the St Peter Port project had now reached a "key milestone" after months of preparing the site.
Les Ozouets was home to St Peter Port School until it shut in 2009 after about 40 years of being open. It was then used by the College of Further Education from 2011 to 2022.
Demolition work on the previous campus started in June 2024. The work is part of the programme agreed by the States to redevelop the site into the Les Ozouets Post-16 Campus.
The construction of the sixth form centre and sports facilities at Les Ozouets is expected to cost twice as much as previously estimated, at about £50m.
The current target date for the opening of the new facilities at Les Ozouets is early 2027.
Mr Dupre said the project remained on course for that target despite expected weather delays in the coming months.
"We're just sort of fingers and everything crossed that we don't get too much wet weather that then really starts delaying us.
"Other than that, it's just usual project risks with supply chain and deliveries and that sort of stuff, but so far it's all going really well."
