Firefighters have worked overnight to tackle a blaze in an abandoned care facility building in East Dunbartonshire overnight.

The former Living Ambitions building on Canal Street, Kirkintilloch caught fire late on Monday evening.

Residents of nearby houses and the Campsie View Care home next door were advised to keep their windows closed.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service sent two appliances at about 23:00 on Monday, and another five appliances later supported them.

A fire service spokesman said: "At its height, six fire appliances and a high-reach appliance were mobilised to the area, where firefighters are working to a fire affecting a derelict building.

"There were no reported casualties and crews remain at the scene."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said local road closures were put in place, but have since been lifted.

"We are working with Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to establish the cause of the fire," a spokesman for the force said.

Campsie View Care Home thanked the emergency services.

A spokesperson added: "We are thankful that no one was injured, including any of our residents or colleagues.

"While the home continues to operate as normal, emergency services remain on site and access to our car park is temporarily closed.

"We are working closely with emergency services to support their operations and are committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our residents."
