Man admits killing carer in 'heartbreaking' attack
FamilyA man has admitted killing a woman who had been caring for him in a "heartbreaking" attack.
Irene Mbugua's body was found by police officers at an address on in Markby Road, Winson Green, on 23 June 2025.
Mbugua was providing care to David Walsh inside his home at the time she was attacked, a post-mortem revealed that the 46-year-old had died as a result of serious head and face injuries.
Walsh, 35, denied murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter at Warwick Crown Court on Tuesday, he also admitted four counts of assaulting an emergency worker and will be sentenced on 26 March at Birmingham Crown Court.
Det Insp Michelle Cordell, who led the investigation, said the force's thoughts had remained with Mbugua throughout.
"The circumstances of this case are heartbreaking.
"Irene's life was cut short by someone she was providing care for. My investigators have worked tirelessly to understand the circumstances surrounding Irene's death, and to provide answers for Irene's family".
In a tribute to Mbugua following here death, her family said: "It's so sad that you got snatched from us in such a cruel manner."
"We are so lost without you and we pray for grace to face each day mum, your beautiful smile and hearty laughter will be missed.
"Please just remind us on how to join the dots because we don't have a map yet. Rest easy, you remain in our hearts forever."
