Media City Half Marathon: All you need to know

The Media City Half Marathon event will begin at 09:00 GMT on Sunday

The Media City Half Marathon February event will be returning to Salford for the second year running this Sunday, 15 February.

The 13.1 mile (21.1km) course will see thousands of runners covering two flat laps - beginning and ending at in the heart of Media City.

Last minute entries are still available at £42 per place via event organisers Run Through- or £10 through Mind mental health charity with a minimum sponsorship of £250.

Here's everything you need to know about this year's event.

Route and timings

Starting and finishing near the Media City Metrolink tram stop - the event will begin at 09:00 GMT and is expected to finish at 12:30.

The two lap route will be a closed road course, looping from Media City through the roads of Salford and Eccles and onto footpaths around Salford Quays before returning to the centre of Media City.

Runners are asked to head to the registration desk at the event village between 07:30 - 08:30 - after this there will be a 15 minute warm up before the event starts.

Which roads will be closed?

All road closures will begin at 08:30.

Broadway, Coronet Way, Centenary Way and Bentcliffe Way will reopen at 11:30 - with all roads reopening by 12:00.

  • Moorings Road
  • Trafford Park Road
  • Churchill Way
  • Trafford Wharf Road

Event organisers have said disruptions and diversions along the route can be expected from 08:30 until 12:30.

What are my public transport options?

Media City Metrolink station is the closest tram stop to the event's start line and finish line.

The stop can be accessed from the city centre via Cornbrook station.

For those travelling by rail, Salford Crescent train station is the closest train station to Media City. There are bus services from the station to Media City - or alternatively - the journey takes around 10 minutes by taxi.

Other buses service that stop in and around Media City operate from Manchester city centre, Intu Trafford Centre, Hulme, Swinton and East Didsbury.

For participants arriving by car, MediaCityUK can be found from the M60 ring road on to the M602 exiting at Junction 3 and following signs for Salford Quays/Trafford Park.

From the roundabout follow signs for Salford Quays and turn right onto Broadway at the first set of Traffic lights.

What are the parking options?

The closest car park is MediaCity Multi-storey car park - but drivers are asked to arrive here before 08:00 as the road leading to the car park will close ahead of the race start.

This car park is expected to be busy and event organisers have recommended participants park away from Media City and walk to the venue.

"The multi-storey car parks nearest to the venue will be extremely busy and will have delays on arrival and leaving," Run Through said.

There is a 1,800 capacity multi story car park located at the Lowry Outlet Store, M50 3AH - around 10 minutes walk from the event village.
