Two people have been injured in a crash involving two cars and an old ventilation shaft, which had toppled over, in Aberdeen.

Emergency services were called to Hutcheon Street, close to its junction with Ann Street, just before 13:00.

The casualties were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

One of the cars appeared to have been damaged by the shaft, which had once formed part of a 19th Century railway tunnel.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said it sent four appliances and a specialist vehicle to the incident.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "Two ambulances, two special operations response teams and a critical care team were dispatched to the scene.

"Two patients were transported to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary."
