Roofing and lighting at a railway station have been improved following a £1m project.

Greater Anglia carried out the work at Harwich International over four weekends in September.

More than 100,000 journeys start or end at the station in north-east Essex every year.

Andrew Goodrum, from Greater Anglia, said: "These improvements make a significant difference to the overall passenger experience."

Roofing over the footbridge, staircases and station entrance was replaced, as well as upgrades to ceilings in the same areas.

The station was also repainted throughout and new energy-efficient lighting installed.

"The station is now brighter, more modern and more welcoming, while our new energy-efficient lighting reduces our carbon footprint," said Mr Goodrum, the infrastructure and major projects director at Greater Anglia.

"We would like to thank our passengers for their patience and understanding while this work was carried out."
