Fraud alert after scammers pose as police officers
BBCA warning has been issued after reports of fraudsters posing as police officers to gain access to victims' bank accounts.
Wiltshire Police became aware of the scam after several people called to verify the identity of "officers" they had spoken with.
The victims say scammers contacted them about a package being held "as part of an investigation" and claimed to need access to their bank account.
Police say anyone who may have shared their personal details should contact their bank immediately to prevent potential data breaches.
Explaining the scam in a Facebook post, Wiltshire Police said: "The scammer informs the victim that a package is being held for them as part of an investigation.
"The victim is then given a fictitious crime reference number, and informed there would be a follow up phone call from their bank.
"The 'bank' then calls, requesting access to the victim's bank account."
