Dance classes aim to tackle anti-social behaviour

A dance school will be offering free spaces for children using funds which support projects that reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.

The scheme means children, aged three to 14, will be able to take free classes at Crystal Academy Aerial Arts & Dance in Hednesford, Staffordshire.

The youngsters taking up the spaces will be able taught acrobatics, aerial hoop, dance, and theatre, a spokesperson for Cannock Chase Council said.

"Engaging young people in activities like dance not only helps them develop confidence and skills but also promotes positive behaviour and addresses the root causes of anti-social behaviour," councillor David Williams said.

The council's spokesperson added that, by opening access to the performing arts, the scheme would help to tackle social exclusion, support youth development and provide new opportunities for children and families across the district.

Funding is coming from the Staffordshire Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner's community safety fund, which aims to encourage positive community-focused activities.
