The school wants a zebra crossing to be installed, as well as better road signage and markings

Views are being sought on plans to install a road crossing outside a school where parents have long campaigned for traffic calming measures.

The crossing would be installed on Chaldon Road, outside Clifton Hill School, and would sit on a speed bump designed to slow traffic and give pedestrians a place to cross, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

The move follows years of concern about road safety from the community of the Caterham secondary school for 11-19 year olds with severe and complex learning difficulties and special needs.

Surrey County Council said feedback from the consultation will help inform the final design and decision-making process.

There are currently no dropped kerbs on Chaldon Road, and road markings have faded.

Residents, parents and road users can share their views on the proposal until 26 January.
