A former hospital in Broadford in Skye is set to be demolished before the end of the month so that accommodation for NHS staff could potentially be built on the site.

The Mackinnon Memorial buildings have lain empty since 2022 when the new modern Broadford Hospital was opened.

Highland Council, which now owns the area, said discussions were still at an early stage on the future of the site.

But it added that the area's potential uses as a site for key workers' homes had been recognised.

NHS Highland recently transferred the land to Highland Council.

Richard MacDonald, director of estates, facilities and capital planning, said the health board was delighted to be part of the MacKinnon Memorial Hospital Working Group.

He added that the group would be "looking at the provision of healthcare accommodation" as part of the development, as well as exploring other opportunities.
