A new TV show fronted by Danny Dyer is aiming to recapture the magic of a caravan holiday - and raise the profile of the Isle of Sheppey.

At the heart of the new series Dyers' Caravan Park, which follows the actor and his daughter Dani, is a caravan park in Leysdown-on-Sea.

Manager Darren Lawrence, who has worked at The Priory Hill and Nutts Farm Holiday Park for 30 years, hopes the programme will showcase the island he knows to a wider audience.

"I've got three young kids, and I wake up and I think 'what a lovely place to live' - I can look out, I see the sea, and it is a lovely community," he told BBC Radio Kent.

Lawrence said Danny Dyer was "really passionate about bringing back the great British holiday"

The programme sees the celebrity pair get stuck into the nitty-gritty of running a caravan park, and Lawrence believes it "was a bit of an eye opener for them".

This process also presented a challenge for management, who "still had to run the holiday park" on top of filming.

Tanya Dolan, sales manager from Golden Leas Holiday Park in Minster-on-Sea, hopes the programme drives greater numbers to holiday on the island.

"There's so much that the island has to offer, and we're excited other people get to see that now...we've got blue flag beaches, it's steeped in history, [and] outside adventure."

As a lifelong resident of the island, Dolan, 44, is favour of "anything to boost the profile of the region".

Reflecting on the filming experience, Lawrence said he developed a new-found respect for those working in television.

He said: "It made for a different season, shall we say...you don't realise the work that goes into it [TV production]. It was great fun and everyone seemed to enjoy it."

The Dyers' Caravan Park is available on Sky One.
