The Willowbrook development would also see a new primary school and business park in Uckington, near Cheltenham

More than a thousand homes and a new primary school could be built near to a soon to be upgraded motorway junction.

Developers Bloor Homes hope to build a new £1bn "sustainable gateway" which will include up to 1,700 homes, a school and a business park on land in Uckington, north west of Cheltenham and close to junction 10 of the M5.

Known as the Willowbrook development, the plans also include cycleways, the creation of new wildlife habitats, open spaces, informal and formal sports provision and a new park and ride facility.

Jonathan Bryan, planning manager for Bloor Homes, said the project will represent a major investment in the region over the next decade.

"Our proposals ensure that the necessary infrastructure is delivered in a coordinated way that benefits both new and existing residents," he added.

The 350-space park and ride would be located adjacent to Junction 10 and would aim to reduce traffic on the A4019 Tewkesbury Road.

An online consultation is open until 6 March before a planning application is submitted to Tewkesbury Borough Council.

Bryan said the company was committed to running a "transparent consultation process" and encouraged local residents, business owners and stakeholders to submit their views.
