Station car park opens for first time in months
BBCA railway station car park has re-opened after being shut for nine months so it could be upgraded.
Improvement work began at Chippenham Railway Station's short-stay facility in March.
The project, overseen by Wiltshire Council and Great Western Railway, involved new bus shelters, benches, landscaping and an expansion of the station forecourt.
A spokesperson from GWR said: "All surfacing, signage, and landscaping is complete, and it is fantastic news to be able to bring the car park back and the new taxi rank into use, alongside other improvements to the station."
Martin Smith, from Wiltshire Council, said: "We're really pleased to see this project nearing completion. It's an important step in making travel to and from Chippenham Railway Station easier and more sustainable for everyone.
"By linking with other local improvements, this scheme will help create better connections for residents and visitors, while supporting the town's future growth and prosperity."
A bigger plan to improve Chippenham station, which provides services to London, Bristol Temple Meads and Bath, has already seen the introduction of lifts, a new bridge and enhancements around the station building.
It is hoped the improvements will encourage more train travel in the county.
The GWR spokesperson added: "Alongside our partners at Wiltshire Council, we're really pleased to be in the final stretch, and in budget."
