An elderly driver died when he was involved in a crash with a Lamborghini, close to a school in Cheshire, police have confirmed.

The driver of a red Vauxhall Viva, aged in his 80s, was in collision with the black supercar on Crewe Road in Sandbach, close to Sandbach School, shortly after 10:00 GMT on Thursday.

He suffered serious injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, Cheshire Police said.

A force spokesperson said the crash was being investigated and no arrests have been made.

Sgt Russell Sime said officers would like to hear from any witnesses as well as those who might have dashcam or CCV footage.

"Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the man who has sadly died," he added.

The force has not released details of what happened to the driver of the Lamborghini.
