Suffolk Police said the worker lost consciousness for a time after being hit on the head

A council worker lost consciousness after being hit on the head by an attacker while litter-picking near some garages, police said.

The man was working on Raydon Way in Great Cornard, near Sudbury in Suffolk, on Tuesday when an unknown suspect approached him between 08:00 and 08:15 GMT.

Police said the suspect initially said "good morning" before swearing at the worker and hitting him on the back of his head, forcing him to fall to the ground.

They said the victim did not see the offender properly, as he was leaning forward to pick up litter at the time, but after regaining consciousness he had left the area. Officers have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
