Drivers have been warned delays are expected throughout the day following a serious crash on a major road in East Sussex.

The A27 was shut westbound between the turn-off for Falmer and and the Carden Avenue junction for Brighton after the crash happened at about 02:00 GMT.

Sussex Police has warned drivers to avoid the area.

National Highways said that, due to the nature of the incident, the road was likely to be closed throughout the day to allow police investigation work.

It said that traffic was being diverted via local routes at the B2123 junction and have asked motorists to follow the signed diversion.

Sussex Police, South East Coast Ambulance Service and East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service have been approached for comment.
