Human remains found on farmland near a Lincolnshire village have been confirmed to be that of a 61-year-old man reported missing more than two years ago, police said.

Trevor Blanchard went missing from the Spilsby area in June 2024, prompting extensive searches using drones, helicopters and rescue dogs.

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said the remains found at Halten Holegate, a few miles from Spilsby, on 22 November had been identified as belonging to Mr Blanchard.

"Trevor's family have been informed of this development. Our deepest sympathies are with them and all who knew Trevor at this very difficult time," they added.

Police said there were not believed to be any suspicious circumstances, or evidence of foul play, and asked for Mr Blanchard's family to be given privacy "as they come to terms with this tragic news".
