Police officer appears in court accused of stealing ammunition
PA MediaA police officer has appeared in court charged in connection with the alleged theft of thousands of bullets from a police training facility.
The ammunition was allegedly taken from Steeple in Antrim where officers are trained in the use of firearms.
On Tuesday Robert Charles Rodgers, whose address was given as c/o PSNI Brooklyn, Knock Road in Belfast, confirmed he understood the eight charges against him at Antrim Magistrates' Court sitting in Ballymena.
The 63-year-old is accused of stealing ammunition belonging to the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), having ammunition without a firearms licence and possessing firearms and ammunition in suspicious circumstances.
He is also accused of fraud and dishonestly abusing his position by creating a security card to access armoury, as well as possessing gun powder.
A police constable said he could connect the defendant to the charges.
Mr Rodgers was released on bail with the case adjourned until 10 February.
The PSNI previously said he has been suspended pending the outcome of the case and internal misconduct proceedings.
