Firefighters leapt into action to save a showjumping horse after its leg became trapped in a horsebox.

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) said the animal was being brought over to Berkshire from the Netherlands when it became tangled up.

It said firefighters worked with the vehicle's driver and an equine vet to safely free the male horse on 19 December.

RBFRS's Animal Rescue Unit was set up in 2010 and is based at Caversham Road Fire Station in Reading, where members are specialists in rescue techniques.
