Marine lake closed for six months for repair work

A sea water lake popular with swimmers will be closed for six months whilst maintenance work takes place.

More public toilets and a new concession, equipment hire and storage facility will be added to the marine lake in Weston-super-Mare.

The work, which will also see steps and ramps repaired and resurfaced, is due to finish by April 2026.

Councillor Mike Solomon, North Somerset Council's executive member responsible for seafronts, said: "We want to see the family-friendly venue develop as a safe place for people of all ages to enjoy a range of water-based activities."

The work will be funded with some money from North Somerset Council's successful bid of £20m from the government.

EJ McGrath Construction has been chosen to carry out the work, with detailed drawings and plans available on the council's website.

Mr Solomon said getting the local community involved in the plans was a "key priority".

He said the council was also working with Mudlarks, a group of volunteers who assist with the management of the lake, to look at "innovative ways" to fund ongoing "maintenance and dredging of the lake".
