A major celebration of Hull's "community spirit" will be staged in March.

Our City will feature two parades through the city centre and an evening of dancing and music in Queen Victoria Square.

The free event, on 14 March, is being directed by Back to Ours, the Hull-based arts charity, and funded by the city council.

The parades will feature four large, themed globes, with participants wearing costumes and carrying props.

Louise Yates, of Back to Ours, said it would be a celebration of people, places, family and friends.

"We want people to sign up and get involved, even if it's something they wouldn't normally do," she added.

"Whether you're an organisation, signing up with friends or family, or joining solo – it's going to be a fantastic day for Hull."

The council said Our City would "form part of a fantastic weekend" alongside Colliderfest, a science and arts festival, and Cultural Tides, an annual conference.

Councillor Rob Pritchard, portfolio holder for culture and leisure, said it was a celebration of "our incredible community spirit and creativity".
