Horse found dead in 'deeply distressing incident'

A horse has been found dead on a busy road in what police described as a "deeply distressing incident".

Winterbourne Road in Stoke Gifford, near Bristol, was shut for a number of hours on Tuesday evening as police investigated the brown horse's death.

Insp Stephen Baines, from Avon and Somerset Police, said it was a "deeply distressing incident" and he urged anyone with information to contact the force.

A police spokesperson added that officers are speaking with witnesses and carrying out CCTV inquiries. They believe the horse may have been pulling a cart with two men on board prior to the incident.

Baines added: "We take reports of this nature extremely seriously and we are committed to identifying those responsible and will pursue all available lines of inquiry.

"I would urge anybody with dashcam or mobile phone footage, or any other information, to come forward and help us progress this investigation."
