Drypool Bridge closed on 15 September for repairs

Drypool Bridge in Hull has reopened after its first phase of repairs has been completed.

The city centre bridge across the River Hull closed on 15 September for a "major repair and strengthening programme".

Work included replacing the affected bearings, adding anti-corrosion coating to parts of the metalwork and waterproofing the road deck.

A bus gate, from Guildhall Road to Dock Street, near Queens Gardens, which was designed to keep services running smoothly while the bridge was closed, has also been suspended.

Local businesses near the bridge said they had been negatively impacted by its closure.

But Hull City Council said while the closure had "caused disruption", the repair works were "absolutely essential" to prevent more closures and long-term congestion.

The authority said the bridge would fully close next year for further work, but a date had not yet been confirmed.
