A dog who has been at an RSPCA centre for 400 days is ready to find his forever home.

Brownie the Dogue de Bordeaux arrived at the Essex South, Southend and District Branch, in Rochford, severely underweight.

Staff spent several months rehabilitating the five-year-old stray and helping him to put on weight.

Rik Moran, from the branch, said: "If any dog deserves a family of their own its Brownie; he's such an adorable boy which is why it's so disheartening that people aren't showing any interest in him and he just keeps getting overlooked."

Brownie was described as a "scaredy cat at heart" by the RSPCA

Given his background, the RSPCA said it took time for him to learn to trust again and he would need "someone to guide him".

Mr Moran said: "Having a troubled past has left a few emotional scars on Brownie and he can get overwhelmed in certain situations.

"But if he is guided in a calm and positive way, he quickly overcomes his anxiety," he added.

The branch said people could fill in an application form on its website if they were interested in adopting him.
