Fire station set for new sale and redevelopment bid
GoogleA former fire station earmarked for redevelopment is being sold for the second time after a previous sale fell through.
Horley Fire Station, in Povey Cross Road near Gatwick Airport, was sold by West Sussex County Council in 2024, having been declared surplus to requirements, on condition the buyer could secure planning permission.
However, the buyer was unable to secure permission for development so pulled out of the sale before a formal exchange was made.
West Sussex County Council agreed the second sale on Thursday, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
After the first sale of the fire station fell through, the site was re-marketed for offers in excess of £3m.
The new sale is also conditional on buyers securing planning permission to redevelop the site.
Prior to its closure in 2023, Horley Fire Station had primarily been used for training.
