Birmingham Airport told passengers to check the status of their flight with their airlines

Passengers flying from Birmingham Airport to parts of the Middle East, Pakistan and Turkey have been advised to check the status of their flights due to the ongoing conflict in the region.

Planes scheduled to go to Doha, Dubai, Mumbai and Delhi on Monday have been cancelled.

A spokesperson for the airport said they appreciated the conflict was an "evolving situation" but airlines should be customers "first port of call as decision makers over flights."

Thousands of British tourists are stranded as several Gulf states shut their airspaces. The Foreign Office has advised against all travel to the region and government officials are understood to be formulating plans to evacuate UK nationals.

Airlines including Emirates, Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways have suspended operations as regional airspace remains shut.

Qatar Airways said it is working with the relevant authorities to support impacted passengers and plans to resume operations when the airspace reopens.

A spokesperson added: "The safety of our passengers and crew is always our highest priority and we apologise for any inconvenience caused."
