Woman denies lying about Ex-Spandau Ballet singer
Getty ImagesA woman who has accused a former Spandau Ballet singer of trying to rape her while she slept told the court she has "only told the truth".
She said she woke to find Ross Davidson attempting to have sex with her in a hotel room in Thailand in 2019, without her consent or a condom.
Davidson, who performed under the stage name Ross Wild, sang with the 1980s band Spandau Ballet in 2018 and also starred in the Queen-themed West End musical We Will Rock You.
The 37-year-old from Finchley, north London, is on trial at Wood Green Crown Court accused of rape, attempted rape and sexual assault. He denies all charges.
The rape is alleged to have happened in London in March 2015, while the attempted rape and sexual assault of another woman is alleged to have happened in Thailand in December 2019.
The jury has been told he has pleaded guilty to a charge of voyeurism in December 2019 against the same woman.
'State of unconsciousness'
Video evidence found on Davidson's phone showed the woman asleep "at least half-naked" in a hotel bedroom. She was filmed being fondled while snoring, "asleep, still and unresponsive", the jury was told.
The woman did not know the video existed until being notified by police in 2023. She said she did not mention the attempted rape during her first meeting with officers because she was "in shock" that the video existed.
After the defence suggested she had given Davidson permission to touch her breasts while she was asleep, she told the court: "Why would I want a man to touch me when I am in a state of unconsciousness?"
She told the court she had had "drunk sex" with Davidson but did not consent the following day when he allegedly tried to rape her.
The pair first made contact on the dating app Tinder before meeting at a bar and having a meal, the court heard.
The woman told jurors she got "very, very drunk" and may have blacked out for parts of the evening.
Defence lawyers said Davidson used a condom during all sexual encounters, but she denied this, saying Davidson told her he had "forgot" when she woke up and confronted him.
During this encounter, Davidson also told her he was going to get her pregnant, the trial heard.
She told the jury: "I think that any woman would be horrified that a stranger would impregnate you."
The woman said she stayed with him that night, which she described as "regrettable but fair", before they spent time together the following day on a beach trip.
In court, defence counsel Charlotte Newell KC asked the woman: "Have you rewritten history to lie about this man?" to which she replied: "Absolutely not – I have told the truth as I remember, even when on the face of it, it makes me look very unflattering".
"It is a very humiliating process to have such a horrible part of your life under such scrutiny, but I have only told the truth in this matter," she added.
The trial continues.
