Loganair has confirmed its Dundee to London Heathrow service will end in September.

The service currently runs twice a day during the week and once on Sundays.

A public service obligation, where funding is provided by the local authority and the Scottish and UK governments, has operated since 2014 to maintain the air route between Dundee and London.

Loganair said it remained committed to its Dundee base and was reviewing alternative London airport options.

It also operates flights to Orkney and Shetland from Dundee Airport.

A spokesperson for Loganair said it was continuing to review its network and the long-term viability of all routes.

They said: "We can confirm we have given notice to Dundee City Council and all other interested parties in relation to the Dundee to London Heathrow public service obligation service, and it is our intention to withdraw from this route later this year following a review of the operation.

"Our teams within the Dundee base have been kept proactively informed throughout this process, and we remain fully committed to both our colleagues and the communities we serve."

A Dundee City Council spokesperson said: "We have received notification from Loganair.

"The council is in discussions with the airline, as well as other partners supplying funding to the public service obligation for the route between Dundee and London.

"The service will operate as normal until 18 September."
