Woman in her 80s seriously hurt in shooting

An 83-year-old woman has been seriously injured after being shot by a suspected air weapon, police have said.

It happened in Monks Eleigh, near Lavenham in Suffolk, shortly before 16:10 GMT on Thursday.

Suffolk Police arrested a man in his 80s on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm at the scene, in The Street, and took him for questioning.

"At this early stage of the investigation, officers are not looking for anybody else in connection with the incident," the force added.
