An investigation has been launched into the cause of a major fire at a car dealership in York.

Crews from York, Malton, Selby, Tadcaster, Harrogate and Knaresborough were called to the Stoneacre Motor Group site on Jockey Lane on Monday afternoon.

At its height, clouds of thick black smoke could be seen rising above York City FC's nearby LNER Community Stadium during the club's match against Altrincham.

A North Yorkshire Fire Service spokesperson said many calls about the blaze had been received from fans leaving the ground after the match.

People in the area were warned to keep windows and doors closed while firefighters tackled the blaze.
