Inquiry after elderly man and woman found dead

An investigation has been launched after an elderly man and woman were found dead in Doncaster on Sunday evening.

An 82-year-old man and a 78-year-old woman were found with serious injuries in a property on Brockenhurst Road in Hatfield at about 19:50 BST, and pronounced dead at the scene.

South Yorkshire Police said officers were not looking for anybody else in connection with the deaths and the victims' relatives had been informed.

Det Ch Insp Ben Wood said the force was keeping an "open mind" and would be "led by the evidence".

He said: "We understand this incident will come as a shock to those in the local community and beyond, and our thoughts are very much with the loved ones affected.

"Officers remain in the area at this time and if you have any concerns please do stop and speak to them."
