Two men have been charged with attempting to steal products worth £1,600 from a supermarket.

Cambridgeshire Police said it was called to Tesco in Cambridge Road, Milton at about 15:30 GMT on Friday after security officers reported suspected shoplifting.

The force posted pictures of trolleys loaded with multiple bottles of champagne, spirits and big packs of laundry detergent, among other items seized.

The men were due to appear at Peterborough Magistrates' Court on Monday accused of theft and attempted theft, with one also charged with going equipped for theft.

Sgt Chris Daniels from Cambridgeshire Police said the force was increasingly seeing shoplifting "linked to organised groups who target stores repeatedly and at scale".

"These offences have a real impact on retailers, staff and the wider community," he said.

"We take this type of criminality extremely seriously and will continue to work closely with businesses to identify offenders quickly and bring them before the courts."
