A charity food van that gives out free meals to those who need it is back in action during the school half-term break in Jersey.

The Spud Truck serves jacket potatoes to support families who cannot afford meals outside of term-time.

It is run by charity Caring Cooks, with activities also on offer for children.

It would be at Haut Vallee School between 16:30 GMT and 17:30 GMT, from Monday to Friday this week, project bosses said.

'Waiting for this'

Yvonne Corbin, from the charity, said the facility could make a big difference to a child's life.

She said: "These children come and see us and know us by name, and go: 'We've been waiting for this.'

"I remember one little boy who finished his spud and said it was the best day of his life.

"It's so lovely, but that is how much enjoyment they get out of it."
