Classic and vintage car enthusiasts have set off on a 1,500-mile (2,414km) drive from John O' Groats in Caithness to Monte Carlo in Monaco.

The drivers are taking part in the UK leg of one of motor sport's oldest events - the Monte Carlo Classique/Historique Rally.

It is 100 years since a group of drivers first made the journey from the north of Scotland to the principality on the French Riviera.

Cars stopped off in Inverness on the journey south.

John O'Groats is one of six "departure cities" for the rally.

The others are Bad Homburg in Germany, Barcelona in Spain, Turin in Italy, Reims in France and Monte Carlo.
