The family of a US-born pedestrian who died in road traffic collision in Oxford has paid tribute to "the most wonderful friend and grandfather".

James "Max" Farrar, 80, died in the crash on A4142 Eastern Bypass Road between Risinghurst and Horspath Driftway in Oxford on Saturday.

In their tribute, his loved ones said he had been born in Utah and had "travelled the world working as an explorer and archaeologist" before retiring to Oxford.

TVP said a 28-year-old man from Dunstable who had been arrested on suspicion of causing death while driving a vehicle without a licence or insurance, had been released on bail until 21 January.

"Max donated a lot of his money and time to charities that supported nature, wildlife, and democracy," the tribute reads.

"His death is a tragedy, and he will be greatly missed by so many."

The force said a Ford Fiesta and a Hyundai Ioniq had been involved in the crash and the investigation continues.

It appealed to witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to get in touch.
