New swimming pools could be built in Huntingdon
LDRSA new 25-metre swimming pool could be built in a Cambridgeshire town as part of a major upgrade to existing facilities.
The proposals to extend and refurbish One Leisure Huntingdon in St Peters Road also included new racket courts and fitness suites.
Anglian Water objected to the proposal, put forward by Huntingdonshire District Council, due to concerns that there was "insufficient capacity to accept the additional flows from the development" at the Huntingdon (Godmanchester) Water Recycling Centre.
The council will make a judgment on the proposals on Monday.
The plans also include adding a two-storey extension, a spectator seating area by the new eight-lane pool and a 13m pool for learners. It would involve relocating an artificial pitch, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.
The existing pool at the council-run facility, which would be replaced under the plans, is also 25m in length.
Huntingdonshire District Council officers recommended the plans for approval, writing in a report that there were "clear and substantial public benefits" to the project.
Officers said they asked Anglian Water for more information about their concerns, including to what extent the project would result in a net increase in pressures on the water recycling, as it was the extension of an existing facility rather than the provision of a new one.
