Football club stadium upgrades approved
WTFC/Matthew Montague ArchitectsPlans for new terraces and extra turnstiles at a non-league football club in Nottinghamshire have been given the go-ahead.
Worksop Town Football Club said the new features at their Windsor Foodservice Stadium in Sandy Lane were needed due to the "growing community interest and the club's strong performance" on the pitch.
The Tigers, who secured promotion to the National League North - the sixth tier of English football in 2025 - will build four freestanding prefabricated stands to increase the number of seats and standing areas to meet FA regulations.
Bassetlaw District Council approved the plans earlier this month.
The new stands will be funded through the Premier League Stadium Fund, which awards grants to lower-league clubs to support the improvement of their facilities for players, supporters and officials.
Planning documents said Worksop Town FC "consistently draws local support", with average home attendances of around 800 to 900 people during the 2024-25 season, while key fixtures have seen peaks of just over 1,000 fans.
The highest recorded attendance for the season was 2,032, during the Premier Division Play-off Final at Sandy Lane at the end of last season, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.
In a planning statement, a club spokesperson said: "As Worksop Town moves forward, it remains committed to its supporters and the wider community that continues to stand behind it.
"The proposed improvements will bring significant benefits to the local community.
"In addition to accommodating the growing number of football supporters, improvements to the stadium will allow the club to offer more opportunities for community engagement."
The ground has already undergone modern upgrades, including an artificial 4G pitch.
