Man, 78, dies in crash and passenger airlifted to hospital

A 78-year-old man has died in a crash near Dunkeld in Perth and Kinross.

The crash, involving a Volkswagen van, happened on the A822 near Amulree, at about 12:20 on Friday.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. One of his passengers, a 58-year-old man, was was taken to Ninewells Hospital by air ambulance. The other occupants were checked over by paramedics at the scene.

The road was closed while a crash investigation was carried out and fully reopened at about 19:30.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

Sgt John McDiarmid said: "My thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died in this collision, as well as those who were in the van.

"While we've spoken to a number of witnesses already, I'd appeal to anyone else who saw what happened, or the vehicle before the crash, to come forward.

"Can I also please ask anyone with private CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage of the A822 area to review this and bring anything of significance to our attention."
