A 12-year-old boy has suffered serious injuries after being hit by a bus in Bedworth, Warwickshire.

Emergency services were called to the junction of Park Road and Coventry Road in the town shortly before 17:30 GMT on Monday.

The child was treated for serious injuries before being taken to University Hospital in Coventry, the ambulance service said.

The road was closed in both directions "after a pedestrian was struck," said Warwickshire Police.

An air ambulance and paramedics were sent to the scene at 17:27, said West Midlands Ambulance Service.

In a statement, it said: "On arrival, crews found a bus and a pedestrian - a child - had been involved in a collision.

"The child, a boy, was treated for serious injuries before being conveyed via land to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire."
