Goldman Sachs to double staff in Birmingham
Goldman SachsInternational banking giant Goldman Sachs has said it will double the number of jobs at its Birmingham office.
The firm, based at One Centenary Way, said it would increase its workforce in the city to 1,000 staff in the coming years, adding that it was deepening its commitment to the UK economy.
The London office is the business's largest in Europe, with the Birmingham base specialising in innovation and technology.
It said the expansion in the UK's second city came as it was increasing its activities "to critical parts of the economy where we see substantial opportunities to deploy capital, including in AI and digital infrastructure".
Neil Rami, chief executive at the West Midlands Growth Company, said the move "reinforces the West Midlands' rise as a global hotspot for financial and professional services".
"This renewed vote of confidence demonstrates that we have the specialist talent, infrastructure and connectivity to support the growth ambitions of the world's biggest businesses," he said.
He added that it would likely have a "positive ripple effect" across the city's business ecosystem.
"It's brilliant to see Goldman Sachs thriving in their home at Paradise Birmingham and we look forward to continuing to support their ongoing expansion in the city."
