'Foam-like' substance spotted on river surface

A white foam-like substance was captured along the river in Brandon

The source of a foam-like substance along a river is currently unknown, according to the Environment Agency.

Residents in Brandon, Suffolk, noticed on Thursday the white substance floating on the Little Ouse river and reported it as pollution.

Photos captured large amounts of the substance on the water's surface as it moved downstream.

The Environment Agency said officers had attended the site but had not yet identified what was causing the substance, but it had dispersed.

Anyone with information on the pollution has been urged to contact the Environment Agency

"Following reports of pollution on the Little Ouse in Brandon, officers attended the site to investigate and try and locate the source, which is currently unknown," an Environment Agency spokesperson said.

"Fortunately, we have yet to identify any impacts to fish or the river ecology and the pollutant seems to be dispersing."
