An engineer has retired after 60 years working at Wilton Carpets in Salisbury, Wiltshire. Keith Evens began working there at the age of 15, the Salisbury Journal reports. In his time there, he met his late wife Patricia and even weaved about 1,370 metres (1,500 yards) of carpet for Queen Elizabeth II.

Residents in Taunton, Somerset, could face 60 weeks worth of roadworks while work on the Staplegrove urban extension takes place. The development will consist of 1,628 homes, commercial space and a new primary school.

Motorists travelling eastbound on the M4 are facing a month-long overnight closure on the carriageway between junction 16 and 15, the Swindon Advert reports. Signposted diversions will be in place via local roads, National Highways said.

Weighted recycling bags are being introduced in parts of South Gloucestershire to stop rubbish blowing around on windy days, according to Bristol Live.

What to watch on social media

First West of England announced industrial action planned in Bristol from Monday until 14 October has been cancelled after an agreement over pay was reached.

The University of Bristol called for apple donations ahead of Apple Day on Sunday. The event aims to save thousands of kilograms of apples from landfill. A bottle of juice or cider will be given out for every 5kg (11 pounds) of apples donated.

Trevor, a teenaged bull is "testing" the boundaries of staff at Coppershell Animal Rescue in Gastard, Wiltshire, by jumping over fences and leaving his field. Staff apologised to delayed motorists who had to wait for him to be collected off the road and urged anybody who sees him out and about to alert them.

Preparation is under way for the Weston-super-Mare Beach Race later this week. The circuit has been created on the beach with large dunes ready for competitors to race along the sands.

Fathers on the Bath Rugby team are celebrating the Children's Literature Festival, which is on in the city until Sunday.
